PERBEDAAN KAMPAK BIASA(HATCHET)DAN TOMAHAWK(KAMPAK SUKU INDIAN)

OBJECTIVE: Learn the Differences Between a Tomahawk and an Axe or Hatchet

Tomahawks and Axes all look very similar which can make them difficult to distinguish at times, don't worry this guide will clarify the differences for you.
Blade Profile

A tomahawk's blade profile is very narrow, while an axe or hatchet's is steep and resembles the shape of a triangle.

Why? The reason is because of function. A narrow blade allows a tomahawk to be more effective in combat, while an axe or hatchet's triangular shape allows it to split wood easily.

You can see above the difference in blade profile's.

Now this doesn't suggest that they couldn't perform each other's primary roles, an axe or hatchet is a very lethal weapon and a tomahawk is pretty good at splitting wood.

But if I was going into combat I'd want a tomahawk, and if I had to cut a large amount of wood I would want an axe.
How the Head is Hafted
The next major difference is how the head is hafted or attached to the handle. A traditional tomahawk is a friction fit tool(not true in the modern tomahawks) meaning the head is inserted on the handle from the base and momentum and friction keep the tomahawk's head in place like a pickaxe.

An axe's head is attached from the top of the handle and is held in place by a wedge that expands the wood.

The Eye Shape and Handle
Lastly, the eye and handle are the 3rd main differences between a tomahawk and and axe.

Tomahawks have a more roundish eye with a straight handle, this is very handy when your out in the bush. Because if your handle breaks, you can easily make a new handle from a branch with a tomahawk head. Not so easy to do with an axe.

Now your an Expert!
Now you know the main differences between a tomahawk and an axe or hatchet! Go out there and kick butt!
Note: There are other differences that were not covered in this guide, and not every difference will apply to all tomahawks and axes.
